What are Channels?
Channels are essentially folders for your challenges. Each channel can contain any number of challenges. Channels can be used to organize or curate challenge content and to run contests.
Channels show up before individual challenges on the main Challenges page. Channels can be ranked just like challenges can and individual challenges ranked #1 will show after all of the Channels cards.
When advocates click on a Channel, they will be taken to a page with a list of challenges within the Channel. To return to the main hub, advocates just need to click on < Back to CHALLENGES at the top of the page.
Creating a Channel
To create a Channel, go to Program > Channels > Add Channel
Click on "Crop Image" to crop your image to its desired look. Images should be in jpg or png format, with recommended dimensions of 450 by 500 and a file size of no greater than 5MB. Gifs are not accepted.
Channel Ranking
Rank your Channel #1 if you would like it to appear first on the advocate's Challenges page, #2 if you would like it to appear second, and so on. Ranked Channels will be shown first to Advocates, followed by any unranked Channels.
By default, all existing Channels will have a rank of N/A. Channels without a rank will be shown to Advocates in order of the creation date, with the most recently created Channel being shown last.
To assign a Channel a rank:
- From the Edit Channel page, click the rank dropdown.
- Choose a number from 1-100.
- Click Save.
Channel Targeting
Channels can be targeted towards individuals, groups, specific advocate information, behaviours, and responses. There is a maximum of five rules each for inclusion and exclusion rules. Within a rule, a maximum of 50 different values can be added.
The list of advocates on the right is a preview of some of the advocates who are included in the current targeting and will, therefore, be able to see the Channel. The number at the top shows the total number of advocates included in the targeting. The list and the number count only include advocates who have joined the hub by logging into their account at least once, it does not include Not Joined advocates.
A challenge can only reside within one Channel at a time. When editing a challenge's targeting options, you will be able to select a Channel to put the challenge in. If you do not choose a Channel, the challenge will be available on its own in Influitive on the main Challenges page.
A Channel's targeting rules will override the targeting rules of the challenges within it. Said another way: When you add challenges to a Channel, the challenge targeting becomes a subset of the Channel targeting . For example, if your challenge is set to include "Everyone", that would be everyone who can see the Channel and not everyone in your Hub.
You can create a series of challenges that unlock within a Channel as well. Keep in mind that targeting for the channel will override the targeting for the individual challenges within it, so make sure that the targeting is compatible for all the advocates who you want to be able to see the challenges. Get a comprehensive overview of challenge targeting here .
When an advocate completes all challenges within a Channel, it will disappear from their Challenges page.
Publishing a Channel
Once you hit Save for your Channel, you can publish the Channel by either clicking on the orange "Not Published" button or selecting "Publish" from the dropdown under the pencil icon.
Select the desired dates of publication in the window that pops up.
Archiving a Channel
For Channels that are no longer in use, you can archive the Channel from the main list of Channels by clicking on the pencil icon and selecting "Archive".
Note: A channel card will not be visible to advocates when there are no challenges available to them in it.
Our article about Events Best Practices is still a good resource, but instead of using Experience URLs at your event, you can use join codes for Groups (and these Groups can be included in the targeting for your brand new Channel!)
FAQ
How do I create a new channel on my platform?
To create a new channel, navigate to the Program > Channels > Add Channel section of your platform, provide a unique name, description, and card image for the channel, and set the appropriate access settings.
What is channel ranking and how does it affect visibility?
Channel ranking determines the order in which channels appear to users, with higher-ranked channels being more prominent on the main Challenges page. You can assign a rank to prioritize the channel's visibility to users.
How does channel targeting work?
Channel targeting allows you to set criteria to define which users or groups should have access to the channel, based on individual, group, advocate information, behaviors, and responses. This ensures that the content is tailored and visible to the intended audience.
What happens when I publish a channel?
Publishing a channel makes it live and accessible to the targeted audience. You can publish a channel by clicking the "Not Published" button or selecting "Publish" from the dropdown menu and choosing the publication dates.
Can a challenge be part of more than one channel?
No, a challenge can only be part of one channel at a time. When editing a challenge's targeting options, you can choose which channel it belongs to. If no channel is selected, the challenge will appear individually on the main Challenges page.
